I have always found myself being drawn to pottery whenever I came across it. In the Fall of 2011, I took the six-week introductory class at The Potter’s Shop. By the time the class was completed, I was hooked and realized that the medium of clay provides unlimited possibilities!!
My love of nature and experience as a garden photographer resulted in pottery pursuits centering mostly on the garden. Initially, I combined small wheel thrown and hand built pieces with garden stakes to create what I called totems. A friend’s interest in blacksmithing contributed toward a unique series combining larger totem pieces with awesome one of a kind stakes.
Other subject areas for my clay creations have included hearts, inspirational messages, angels, tiles, buttons, boxes and funky footed bowls. My mixed media art, which was being pursued separately, eventually evolved to incorporate clay pieces.
Recently, I found myself wanting to create bigger art for the garden. I began by focusing on hand built spheres. It is so interesting to me that my failures along this path have resulted in some of my favorite pieces and it has taught me so much about myself and the creative process.
My journal is filled with ideas – I can hardly wait to see what comes next!!
