Kiln Firing and Fees

The Potter’s Shop kiln room consists of one 2.6 cu.ft., four 7 cu.ft., and one 10 cu.ft. electric cone 6 kilns.

Non Member Kiln Firing Fees

If you’ve got some pottery that you’ve made at home, in a class, or somewhere else and would like to have it fired in our kilns, The Potters’ Shop offers bisque and glaze firing services in our electric kilns.

  • Turn-around time depends on the current schedule but is generally 3-7 days
  • Work must be completely dry
  • We can also rush a special order, at an extra cost
  • We DO NOT FIRE the following: glass, items stuffed with paper, metal, or any other non-clay items
  • Please note: Kilns will be loaded and unloaded by The Potter’s Shop studio technicians only

Member Fees:

  • Electric Kiln
    • Full load up to cone 6:  $30 for members
    • Full load cone 6-10:  $55 for members

Kiln loads need to be paid for in full prior to firing.  Members are allowed to share kiln loads; however, a full load needs to be paid for by 1 member. 

The charges below include loading and unloading the kilns. There will be an extra charge for work that is hard to handle or many small pieces that need special stilting ($.25 per stilted piece)

Non-member bisque kiln firing prices:
Bisque Firing: Cone 06 – Cone 04
Full load (7 cu/ft) = $150
Half load (3.5 cu/ft) = $75
Minimum charge for smaller loads = $35
Includes loading and unloading the kiln

Non-member Glaze kiln firing prices:
Glaze Firing: Cone 5 – Cone 6
Full load (7 cu/ft) = $200
Half load (3.5 cu/ft) = $100
Minimum charge for smaller loads = $50
Includes loading and unloading the kiln

Rules:

1. We expect your pieces to be constructed and glazed correctly. If your glaze runs onto the shelves you will be charged for shelf cleaning or a new kiln shelf.

2. If you would like to fire your work, please call to arrange a firing date and time.

3. If your work blows up in the kiln and ruins other people’s work, you will be charged accordingly.

4. Any items not picked up within 30 days of the completion will be considered abandoned, becomes property of studio and may be discarded or donated.
