Growing up, I passed a lot of time out in the forests of Wisconsin. Trying to capture the feel and texture of those woods in my pottery is what I’m currently trying to achieve. I work to give an organic feeling to the clay’s surface. Experimenting with new techniques and tools to investigate the ceramic medium is what keeps my mind energized and aids me in my effort to create truly one of kind pieces. I feel I’ve achieved success when someone can’t resist the urge to reach out and touch the finished work.
My pottery is thrown on the potter’s wheel and then altered to add visual and tactile interest and depth. Changing the skin of the vessel by layering on multiple glazes and through alternative firing methods is the final step in my process. I continue to work to achieve optimum results by testing and by paying close attention to both the details of the process and the final outcome.
