About Thanasi Papapostolou
Thanasi Papapostolou is a sculptor who divides his time between the Washington DC metro area and Madison WI. He received an M.F.A. from the Graduate School of Figurative Art of the New York Academy of Art, a B.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, a 4 Year Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and has studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy.
Thanasi is a contemporary classical figurative sculptor whose work challenges anachronistic perceptions of figurative art. His stand-alone pieces use the human figure to explore notions of idealism—of form, structure, and human emotion. His sculptural installations place figurative and architectural pieces in dialogue with one another, removing the human figure from the viewer’s day-to-day experience and re-positioning it within a controlled context.

- 2-Day Workshop, Feb 26th – Feb 27th, 2:00pm – 7:00pm both days.
(students will be able to break for lunch for 1 hr both days if desired)
Students will work from a single source reference and sequentially progress through stages of clay modeling to completion. The drying to greenware state and firing would happen after the workshop.
- Students will not apply finishing to their sculptures in this workshop, but rather given a bisque-ware piece back and given recommended instruction about finishing techniques to be used at home such as waxes, slips, or paint.
